Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is located in the northeast corner of Gran Canaria, 18 kilometres or a 20-minute drive from Gran Canaria International Airport. With an annual throughput of ten million passengers, the airport - in which fifty airlines operate - offers a permanent service every day of the year.
Gran Canaria is the third of the eastern islands of the Canary Islands archipelago, located 150 kilometres from the coast of Africa and 1,350 from the Iberian Peninsula and Europe. In terms of travelling times: two-and-a-half hours from Madrid, four hours from the main cities of Europe and six hours from America.
El Puerto de La Luz y de Las Palmas port is the second entrance to the city. It has connections to 380 ports around the world via 30 sea routes and attracts a constant stream of national and international passengers in cruise ships.
The best climate in the world
The people of La Palma enjoy a never-ending Spring.
The location of the archipelago next to the Tropic of Cancer and the influence of the trade winds give Las Palmas de Gran Canaria average temperatures of 17º C in winter and 25º C in summer.
The trade winds - coming from northern Europe - bring fresh, humid air. The clouds from the continent filter out the solar rays and the cold-water sea current from the gulf regulate and soften the thermal oscillations. The result, according to the department of climatology of Syracuse University (USA), is the best climate in the world.
